PPD Town Hall – Special Meeting 5/23/2024

The Philadelphia Police Department has asked us to host a town hall event to address concerns in the neighborhood related to 2100 Girard. It will be Thursday May 23rd at the City School 860 N 24th Street. at 7:00PM. 

No refreshments we will have the meeting right at 7:00PM

We will have officials from both the 9th and 22nd districts there to make statements and answer questions.

2100 Girard Ave – Feedback and Meeting

The FCA Board met at our monthly meeting last night (5/7/2024) to discuss the City of Philadelphia’s activities at 2100 Girard. We are still gathering information and evaluating the options we have as a community. We are also securing a time and place for a special meeting which will be announced here and through the newsletter when that information is available.

The Board will meet again on Thursday night (5/9/2024).

FCA Survey on 27th and Pennsylvania Intersection

The Fairmount Civic Association received an email from a neighbor who had concerns about the safety of this intersection. We hope to take the information gathered in this form to inform our local elected officials and city employees to hopefully improve this intersection!

Next FCA Community meeting – March 28 at 7pm

Hello Neighbors!

March Community Meeting 

Our next Community Meeting is scheduled for March 28, 2024 at the City School 860 N 24th St. Refreshments 7:00PM / Meeting Start 7:30PM.

We have two amazing guests for our March meeting. Please come out with your support, ideas, and questions.

Philadelphia Bike Action is a new organization established to advocate for safety, dignity and convenience specifically for people in Philadelphia.  

Philadelphia Police Department Lt. Kulb will address public safety. Lt. Kulb is the Officer in Charge for the 9th District PSA #3, which includes all of Fairmount.

Thank you to Eileen Chen from Town Watch Integrated Services for giving us an overview of the programs their office can help with at our February meeting. Their office is a great resource to help our community reduce crime and blight including help with starting a town watch or removing abandoned vehicles.

And another thank you to the members that participated in the potluck at the February meeting. Thank you to Doreen Martin and Eileen Butler for helping organize – everything was delicious!

Events in the Neighborhood:

  • The 26th Annual Fairmount Bunny Hop!
    Thursday, March 28th, 6 – 10pm
    Buy your bunny ears at any participating location for $10, all proceeds benefit the Trauma Survivors Foundation. Drink and Food specials at all locations! You can prepay for ears or donate if you can’t make it at the link
  • The Philly Spring Cleanup is Saturday April 6th. There are projects planned at 22nd and Brown, Lemon Hill, Girard Ave and more. Use the link to sign up or take their cue and clean your own block that day!
  • The Fairmount Arts Crawl is scheduled for April 27-28. The event is two days this year with Saturday unique performances inside local businesses and Sunday vendors and artists in front of Eastern State and around neighborhood businesses. 
  • The Girard Ave Street Festival is Saturday May 18 from 11 – 5:30. They are looking for all kinds of event partners, deadline to apply is April 2nd.

The Parkway Council also provided an update on some future events and street closures along the Parkway in the upcoming months:

April 6th: Hot Chocolate Run

April 7th: Greek Independence Day Parade

April 20th: Clean Air Run

April 21st: Gift of Life Walk

May 4th: MS Walk

May 19th: SEIU National Convention rally — more information to come, but this is anticipated to be a major event, including the attendance of high-level elected officials. There are likely to be significant closures around this march/rally.

Regattas: March 24th, April 7th, April 14th, and April 21st

Our next Community Meeting is scheduled for February 29, 2024 at the City School 860 N 24th St. Refreshments will be available at 7:00 pm and the meeting will start at 7:30 pm.

Our speaker for February is Eileen Chen from Town Watch Integrated Services presenting on community safety resources.

Thank you to Donna Bullock for presenting a legislative update at our January meeting. Also thank you to Michael Hill Quartermaster of Parkway VFW Post 7650 for providing refreshments. The VFW Post is looking for veterans who served in foreign wars to join the post. They also have social memberships for non veterans and hold events throughout the year for both veterans and the community. 

Open Positions

The Philadelphia Spring Cleanup is scheduled for 4/6/2024. We don’t currently have a neighborhood improvement chair to run our event. If you are interested in being the chair, running a cleanup event or are part of an organization who wants to partner for the cleanup let us know.
